The Angus Glens form the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park and comprises five separate glens (or valleys), which are described as resembling the fingers of a giant's hand.
Scoured by huge glaciers during the Ice Age these glens, including Clova, Isla, Prosen, Lethnot and Esk, stretch from the flatter lowlands - known as the Straths - gently upwards like outspread fingers towards the summit tops of rounded hill tops and mountain summits.
The Glens are home to 14 Munros, some of which are claimed to be the easiest to summit of all the 283 Munros, as well as a wonderful array of wildlife, historical highlights and stunning views.
Suggested two-day, self-guided Bunkhouse Walking Break 1 itinerary
Day 1: Balintore to Prosen Village, 13.5km/8.5 miles, grade 1 and 2
The route follows a low-level track along two magical, "hidden" glens on to the quiet road that runs up one side of Glen Prosen to the village.
Day 2: Glen Prosen to Glen Clova via the Minister's Path, 11km/6.5 miles, grade 2
Once the route of the local minister each Sunday, the route now climbs out of Glen Prosen to reach 400m on Drumwhern, before descending into Glen Clova. Keep an eye out for eagles and ghosts during your overnight stay in this glen!
