Outdoor activities in the Angus Glens, Scotland

A safety guide for Angus walkers

The unspoilt beauty of Angus means that waymarkings and route signs are not always easily visible. On many occasions walkers will also find themselves hiking through remote locations and often without seeing another walker for hours at a time. And let’s not forget the sometimes fickle Scottish weather....

Therefore, it’s vital that walkers prepare carefully for every walking outing. Here’s a guide to staying safe while walking in Angus:

  • Always check the weather before you set off
  • Tell someone where you will be walking and detail your route and expected time of return
  • We recommend you wear good quality walking boots and wear or take with you a full set of waterproof clothing. Glentrek can supply boots and waterproofs if required
  • Also pack a map (and know how to read it), a compass (and know how to use it), hat, gloves, spare socks, food and drink. A mobile phone can be useful, too. Most of the self-led Glentrek walks require only basic navigation skills
  • Check the grading of the walk before you choose your holiday and contact us if you have questions
  • If you’re unsure book a guided Glentrek walking holiday. Our guided walks let walkers walk while the experts lead the way
