1. The glens
A series of finger-like glens that stretch from the west to the east of the region and boast gorgeous valleys and sublime mountainscapes. These glens, including Glen Isla, Glen Clova, Glen Esk, Glen Prosen, Glen Lethnot and Glen Doll, offer some of most fantastic, and varied, walking routes in Scotland.
2. Long-distance routes
Discover Scotland's only circular long-distance walking route, the Cateran Trail or join another long-distance route nearby, the Rob Roy Way.
3. Munros
The area boasts 14 Munros (the 283 Scottish hills with a summit higher than 3000ft), each with a unique and stunning summit-top vista. Angus is also home to the family estate of the original Munro tabulator, Sir High Munro (who originally tabulated all these peaks) which is situated just outside Kirriemuir in Angus.
4. History
Angus is known as the Birthplace of Scotland and consequently is steeped in history. Many of the walking routes can be created to include a range of historical and cultural highlights.
5. Wildlife
You'll find a superb natural heritage in Angus and there are many opportunities for walkers to spot wildlife, including roe deer, red deer, ptarmigan, red squirrels, peregrines, sparrow hawks and buzzards, as well as rarer sightings of the golden eagle or the Scottish wild cat. Rare alpine plants can also be found in Corrie Fee Nature reserve in Glen Doll.
