It's fantastic walking in the Scottish mountains during winter and it's a great way to beat the winter blues and keep fit!
So why not try something completely different and join one of our 'women only' winter walking courses, learning the basic skills with like minded girls so that you can enjoy the hills safely.
These courses are suitable for winter walking beginners, you just have to have a reasonable degree of fitness to make the most of them (and enjoy snow obviously!)
Our skills days take place in various locations throughout the Highlands where we will spend some time going over different conditions that may occur, and how these conditions affect and change your approach on the hill.
Our focus is on learning new skills and enjoyment of the day so you will learn techniques to allow you to move safely through the mountains including the use of the boot, ice axe, crampon techniques, avalanche awareness and emergency skills. These skills are incorporated into a winter walking day so that they may be put to use as the day progresses and you can experience a Scottish winter mountain day – fabulous!
Women's Winter Skills Weekends with Yoga
This weekend's for the ladies! With the addition of a relaxing yoga session before dinner on Saturday, we hope to add a further touch of luxury to make your active winter break in Glenshee even more memorable.
Enjoy two nights accommodation in the lovely Bridge of Cally hotel, not far from the winter ski slopes of Glenshee....a touch of well earned luxury after a day in the snowy hills! On this women only winter weekend we have added a taster yoga session – the benefits of yoga to walkers are becoming widely appreciated and you don't need to have tried yoga before to enjoy this one.
Price below includes:
- Use of all equipment -winter boots, crampons, ice axes
- daily instruction with a qualified winter mountain leader
- 2 nights Bed & Breakfast in a lovely hotel (shared rooms with ensuites). Packed lunches. Single travellers are welcome and will be accommodated in a twin room.
- Single rooms can be arranged if requested with an extra charge of £20 for the 2 nights

Itinerary:
Friday - Evening arrival and welcome. We all meet in the hotel and are briefed on what's planned for the weekend.
Saturday - will begin high up on Glenshee Hills where you will be instructed on the various skills required to tackle walking in the winter mountains, especially use of the ice axe, crampon techniques and avalanche awareness.
Sunday - We will concentrate on putting our new skills into practice with an ascent of the "Munro" Glas Tulaichean (1051m). This hill is a great vantage point to view the surrounding peaks of the Cairngorms and Lochnagar and a fitting place to end a great weekend.
